Historical Shooting Inc's "Battle of the Bulge 2011" shoot

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

Historical Shooting Inc is holding a WW2 "Battle of the Bulge" themed shooting competition in the snowy Sunday NH woods

Participants will be led along a trail through the woods where they will encounter "enemy roadblocks" and other scenarios requiring the firing of various historic weapons.

Participants will attend a short class on US infantry small arms of the 1944 period and provided with a basic history of the events that are known to today as the "Battle of the Bulge". Original weapons and artifacts from the European Theater of the Second World War will be on display. Families and non-participants are welcome for this portion of the event. After this orientation session, participants will do some basic training with unloaded weapons to understand what they will be expected to do in the actual "assault" on the enemy roadblock. Participants will then be transported by truck to the woods, where the adventure begins.

The squad (or squads, depending on turnout) will detruck and proceed into the woods, on the lookout for the enemy. When we encounter the roadblock, it must be destroyed. Each participant will be issued a sealed envelope at the beginning of the march, after the roadblock is destroyed, the envelopes will be opened to determine who is a "casualty" that must be transported out by his or her comrades.

Ammunition will not be issued until the patrol reaches the designated live-fire area. This event is being sponsored in part by the Middlesex Village Trading Co of Charlestown, NH, and the first magazine of ammo will be provided to participants for free, additional ammunition must be purchased at a nominal fee of $10 magazine.

Historical Shooting Inc will provide disposable foam earplugs, but participants are encouraged to bring their own eye and hearing protection. This is an outdoor winter event in New England, you will be rolling around in the snow and shooting from a prone position, so dress accordingly.

This is an educational/fun shoot at reactive targets, not bullseye targets as in the past, so we will not be keeping score or awarding prizes. From past events, we have found that the majority of participants in Historical Shooting Inc events are more interested in the experiance of firing historic weapons and less in competition. Keeping this at the "fun shoot" level also keeps participant costs down. This also keeps a novice shooter from feeling the pressure of competing against people with decades of experience.

If you have your own WW2 vintage rifle and ammunition, by all means bring it along. Period dress is encouraged, but not required.

Some of the historic weapons to choose from for this event:

US Rifles
-M1 Garand Semi-auto rifle
-M1 Carbine Semi-auto rifle
